Under the direction of C. Paul Heins, the University of Maryland Summer Chorus presents W.A. Mozart’s Requiem, K. 626. This last work of Mozart was left unfinished at the time of the composer’s death in 1791. The subsequent completion by F.X. Süssmayr initiated two hundred years of controversy over authorship, style, and structure. These questions are answered in a new edition by Robert Levin, whose compelling combination of “old” and “new” will delight Mozart lovers and enthrall first-time listeners.
Joining the UMD Summer Chorus and festival orchestra in this presentation of Levin’s edition is an extraordinary cast of soloists: Katie Baughman, soprano, Morgan Beckford, alto, Joseph Regan, tenor, and James Krabbendam, bass.
